Baby Suprise Jacket

I've finally finished my first Baby Suprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann.

This is a pattern that I have always wanted to try but never quite managed to get around to trying. It is one of the most ingenious patterns I have ever worked with. You are knitting and knitting trying for the life of you to work out how this knitting is going to resemble a jacket. Then there is the 'click' moment when the knitting hangs off the needles just so and voila. It is a jacket. How EZ ever came up with this pattern I'll never work out but it is just ingenious.

You should. My next one will be in handspun now that I know how the pattern works. Now I need to find someone with a baby to take them off my hands :)

I would love to know how you were able to creae the blocks of color! I have made several of these, but I can't understand how to to these blocks. Please share how!!!

Hi Kathleen. The colour blocks were purely accidental. I cast on with the dark blue but ran out so simply picked up the light blue to finish off. It's when the jacket folds up that the blocks appear. The green is an i-cord bind off. Hope this helps.
